Why Developing the Page Property is Bad For Erie
- REASON 1: Erie’s Open Space Board unanimously recommends the site be preserved for Open Space that everyone can enjoy. It includes sweeping views of the Flatirons, Front Range and Indian Peaks, bird and wildlife habitat, a pond, mature trees, and nesting Great Horned Owls.
-
REASON 2: Open Space doesn’t require more water at a time when we are facing unprecedented drought and long term water restrictions.
-
Reason 3: Traffic and Safety Impacts: Developing this parcel will add a significant amount of traffic to a two-lane county road that is used by local residents, dog park visitors, bikers, pedestrians and children who walk and ride to school, as well as further exacerbating existing safety concerns from excessive speeders.
-
Reason 4: This unique property runs along the Coal Creek corridor, which is vital to Erie, serving as a historic foundation, a key natural corridor for wildlife, and a central focus for recreation, flood control, and environmental planning. Development will significantly disrupt Erie’s important natural connecting ecosystem as at time when Erie is already struggling with water availability and responsible growth.
- REASON 5: ERIE DESERVES OPEN SPACE
We should protect the Coal Creek corridor to ensure wildlife habitats and recreational opportunities remain for our children. Protecting our natural resources is essential for maintaining the quality of life we enjoy in Erie.
